MUHAMMAD SHUMAYL
Muhammad Shumail was a graphics intern and part of the summer 2025 newsroom intern class at The Wall Street Journal.

Muhammad is a graduate student at the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism studying international reporting and data visualization.
​
Previously, he interned at inewsource in San Diego as a data investigative reporter, where he investigated hate crimes, homelessness, public infrastructure disparities, and low hate crime prosecution rates in California through data analysis. He also developed interactive data visualizations and maps. He also wrote for amNewYork as an editorial intern, covering entertainment, community events and business stories and conducting high-profile interviews.

Muhammad began his journalism career as a staff writer for the Catalyst at SUNY Old Westbury. He will graduate with a master's degree in journalism from the Craig Newmark School of Journalism in 2025.
